There has recently been a trend in dermatology away from treating individual precancerous spots and towards treating whole areas, or fields, of the skin. The Levulan Kerastick blue light treatment is a major advance in the treatment of sun damaged skin.
Using this treatment, light-sensitizing liquid medication is painted on to an entire area of the skin (scalp, face, V of neck, arms or hands). Then, that area of skin is exposed to 16 minutes and 40 seconds of blue light. This treatment is very effective at removing precancerous lesions from the skin.
